How trapster® works

When you see a trap, report it by pressing a button on your phone, or calling a toll free number. Other user's phones will alert them as they approach the trap. Trapster® learns the credibility of traps based on how many users agree. It also learns the credibility of each user, over time.

Using the Web Site:

Report - traps by double clicking the map, and dragging the marker to pinpoint the location. You can also report traps using the anonymous tipline menu item.

Voting - Vote and comment on traps reported by others by clicking on the trap icon and using the tabs.

Modifying - Move or delete your own trap reports. Did you put a trap in the wrong place? No problem, you can either just drag it to the right location, or delete it and start over. The delete button is on the Change Trap details tab.

Here's how to get started using Trapster® on your mobile phone:

Create a Trapster® account from your Web browser (not mobile) using the "Sign-up" button on the home page.

Get Trapster® on your Mobile Phone using these Instructions. You can either install the Trapster® application on your mobile, or simply use the voice and SMS features (no install required).

Review the community guidelines.

Report the location of live police traps (e.g. police with radar or laser guns set up), red light cameras, speed cameras, or usual police hiding spots, using the shortcut keys or menu items on your mobile phone. Or report live traps by voice using the toll free number.

Be alerted when you approach previously reported traps. Simply leave Trapster® running on your mobile phone and listen for audio alerts. You can also get alerts for new reports in your area via SMS.

View alerts You can find out exact alert locations by clicking on the trap icons. Some of the mobile version support viewing traps on a map, in others alerts are shown as a textual description in the main application window.

Tell Your Friends to Sign Up! You only need a few friends in your area to make Trapster® useful. It's even better if you have friends who drive or commute along the same routes you do.

Notes:
You will see the color of traps that are entered change from green to yellow to red. These colors indicate the "confidence" of the trap, with red being the most certain. Confidence is incremented when different users report the same trap at the same location from their mobile, and also when users vote using the Web site. If you report a trap, and others corroborate your report, your Karma score goes up. Karma scores can be viewed on the leader board at the bottom of the home page. Clear as mud?
